BA sez: Yann gets respect in the water - at least from me - because he is a true waterman. He can surfboard, kitesurf, windsurf, sup, all at a high level. He shows respect to others in the water, and in return, gets respect! It ain't easy, and it does not come without years lot of wipeouts, hold-downs, and - speaking for myself - a beat-down or two, but once one "gets it" the results are permanent and will last a lifetime - anywhere in the world where there are waves to ride.
