Yesterday the wind stayed down and Katie and I were hoping to go out for an afternoon paddle. Well, the inside was more to my liking, the outside reef break was overhead plus. The wind did pick up so I paddled way outside and to the side of the overheads. Of course Miss Kate begins her prowl, lol! At first Katie scoped the lineup and very much respected their location by staying a little to their right when a sizeable set starts to build. Sure enough the lineup goes for the first few waves of the set allowing Miss Kate to take an outside monster wave. The drop was so fast that as soon as she made her bottom turn she was back on the lip in an instant. These waves are her expertise and what a thrill it is to watch her ride these giants. After seeing Katie catch a couple of overheads, I paddled to the inside and caught a couple of waist highs, good enough for me!

Gorgeous paddle surfboard.

What are your preferences? How do the details you pay attention to make a difference?

Would love to hear your comments!

Sunday I receive a call from Katie that there are overheads coming in, lets go! Not a big wave surfer myself ( kinda prefer chest to shoulder highs ) of course I say yes! At our little spot there was just us with a little wind chop and very nice waist highs. I look over at Katie and she has her eyes on the horizon. I look and sure enough, here comes a big swell. The horizon disappears from the huge bump coming in and I start paddling like crazy to get outside, no getting caught in the inside for me!

I look over at Kate and she is on the prowl for the perfect spot to catch the largest wave in the set. Like instinct she paddles parallel to shore all the while intent on catching the overheads. By this time I am safely to the side of the break and I see her positioning for the peak. Without any fear whatsoever, and with barely a push of her paddle, she's on the top getting ready to drop. Like lightening speed suddenly she is screaming down the face of this huge wave with a look on her face like she's reading the paper. No big deal. Then she gets in a few nice cuts all the while smiling.

I have to laugh along with her as she finished the ride and paddles towards me with this big grin. My eyes are out of their sockets as I was watching her on this wave, and she just chuckles.

It was one of the best sessions in my SUP surf memory, for me catching a dozen waist to shoulder highs, and to watch Big Wave Kate do her thing. I am so blessed to have my SUP Sisters, they all truly inspire me.

Miss Kate, so grateful to see you and Miss Sarah Thanksgiving morning out on the water. Caught some nice rides that day and had a great conversation with the Doc who was riding that beautiful 9'6" Craig.
