My husband and I have been paddling for four years, but only recreationally. We plan to do our first race over Labor Day weekend, and would love to hear any tips you guys may have for newbies. Thanks so much!

Everything that Evelyn posted is right on the money, the only thing I would add, and maybe it's just me, but a moisturizing lip balm (with spf). I find that I get thirstier when my lips feel dry. I prefer the hydration pack over the belt for racing. Have a great time and good luck.
Good luck & have FUN, Jinni!!! The start can seem a little hairy for newcomers as paddlers jostle for position. So either throw yourself into the mix (and be ready for the bumpy agua as dozens of people start paddling at the same time) or hang back a bit and allow the go-getters to get out there & then pace yourself with the lead group. Find a good, strong pace that works for you & just stick with it. Make sure you bring HYDRATION whether on a belt or hydration pack & most importantly, have a BLAST!!! SUP racing is so much FUN :) You're going to LOVE it!
