This event will benefit the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF). Ms. Strom decided to become involved in the cause because her mother-in-law was diagnosed with Parkinson’s several years ago. When her mother-in-law was diagnosed, Ms. Strom was becoming an active paddleboard racer. She decided to use her new hobby to organize an event that would benefit her mother-in-law and the local Parkinson’s community. To get her fundraising event rolling, Ms. Strom joined forces with the “PDF Champions” program, which assists grassroots fundraisers around the country. Stand Up to Parkinson’s a SUP-o-Run will include three standup paddleboard races: one for children, one for adults new to stand-up paddle boarding, and one for pros, infused with foot races. The day’s event will also feature refreshments, music and prizes. Educational materials will be available. Ms. Strom invites the community to Stand Up to Parkinson’s a SUP-o-Run. She said, “I hope that this event will provide a day of happiness and fun for those affected by Parkinson’s. I also hope to generate awareness and raise funds that will benefit the Parkinson’s community.” PDF Executive Director Robin Elliott said, “PDF Champions like Ms. Strom remind me of what PDF does and why: because Parkinson’s disease has affected a friend or loved one – and one million other Americans – and we need to find a cure. We applaud Ms. Strom and our other grassroots fundraisers, whose efforts not only help PDF to fund most promising research, but also serve to raise awareness in communities around the US about the impact of this disease.” Those interested in donating to Ms. Strom’s fundraiser can do so by contacting the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation by calling (800) 457-6676, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or visiting www.pdf.org. Those interested in racing during Stand Up to Parkinson’s a SUP-o-Run should mail in their registration to Pamela Strom P.O. Box 232334, Encinitas CA 92024. For more information you can contact her at email@example.com. There is a $40 pre-race fee for adults. A $15.00 entry fee for the children’s race is required and a $50.00 entry fee the day of the race. Registration opens at 8am. The event is free and open to all spectators. About Parkinson’s Disease Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects nearly one million people in the US. Although promising research is being conducted, there is currently no cure for Parkinson’s. About the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation (PDF) is a leading national presence in Parkinson’s disease research, education and public advocacy. We are working for the nearly one million people in the US who live with Parkinson’s by funding promising scientific research while supporting people living with Parkinson’s through educational programs and services. Since its founding in 1957, PDF has dedicated over $85 million to fund the work of leading scientists throughout the world and over $34 million to support national education and advocacy programs. ###
