For the third consecutive year the Salon Nautique International de Paris is holding the Nautic SUP Paris Crossing, a stand-up paddle race through Paris, starting at 8.00 am on Sunday 9 December 2012, the weekend that the boat show opens.
“Paddling across Paris is something incredible. This event, where you set off at first light, is magical. I must have taken a bunch of photos...the potential of this crossing is huge, Paris is Paris and paddling down the middle of the city is a sensation that affects the collective imagination!” explains Robby Naish, sponsor of the 2011 race.
Last year, 100 courageous souls gathered at daybreak along the starting line of the Nautic SUP Paris Crossing, on the Seine in front of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
This year, to meet the exponential growth in the number of requests to participate, Nautic has opened the race up to 200 competitors and broadened the event into two classes: Leisure and Professional.
The competitors will therefore be coming to defy the Parisian winter over a course 11 to 15 kilometres long, starting from the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and finishing at the far end of Quai de Javel.
In both 2010 and 2011, it was Eric Terrien--one of the world’s specialists in the sport, already a winner of numerous events in France, Italy and Germany, and a finalist in the “Battle of the Paddle” in Hawaii and California--who emerged the winner in the overall ranking based on two rounds. En 2011, Gaétan Séné finished 2nd and Belarmino Diaz 3rd.
