Dillon Lake & SUP Will Live Happily Ever After!
Friday, 28 September 2012 00:00

The Dillon Reservoir Recreation Committee passed the resolution which adds SUP to the approved list of activities on Dillon Reservoir that do not require a full drysuit or wetsuit.

Now paddlers can legally wear what you see in this photo on Dillon Reservoir in Colorado.

DILLON RESERVOIR, Colorado - Just last month Supconnect shared a breaking story of problems on Dillon Lake for stand up paddlers.  At the time SUPers were desirous that they not be required to wear wetsuits on the lake while paddling because of over heating and uncomfort while paddling.  At the time, the Denver Rules and Regulations for recreational use of the Reservoir required stand up paddlers to wear a full body wet suit or dry suit anytime they paddled on the lake.

As a result of all the commotion, Stand Up Paddlers then met on August 21st with the DRReC (Dillon Res. Recreation Committee) who is the controlling board for lake activity and is comprised of representatives from Frisco, Dillon, Denver Water, US Forest Service and others where they were able to present their concerns and desire for change.  The result was that the committee passed a recommendation that the wetsuit regulation be removed from Dillon Reservoir with respect to SUP.  This recommendation was then taken back to each respective town council and agency to hopefully also be approved there.

As of today it was reported that the DRRec passed the resolution which adds SUP to the approved list of activities on Dillon Reservoir that do not require a full drysuit or wetsuit.  Stand Up Paddlers will however be required to wear a personal flotation device (pfd).

The stand up paddle community in Dillon want to thank all those who helped make this possible and are excited to have even more fun while spreading the SUP stoke and ohana on the reservoir.

About a month ago Supconnect asked the question, "Will Dillon Lake and SUP Live Happily Ever After?"  Today it is great to answer with a resounding YES!
