2nd Swiss SUP Championships held on Preverenges Beach July 7th, 2012

LAKE GENEVA, Switzerland - It was a spectacular, action packed day for the 2nd Swiss SUP Championships held on Preverenges Beach July 7th and organized by the ASSOCIATION SWISS STAND UP PADDLE ·-ASSUP-·

Close to fifty participants, all aligned for an intense beach start, took off for the 10km long distance race. Steeve Fleury, defending Swiss long distance champion, kept the lead from start to finish and crossed the line in 1h 10min 10sec. The women's category was won by Marriane Vuillemin.  

Following these races, the sun continued to shine for the mid afternoon kids race where boys and girls ages 8 to 12 enjoyed a fun filled race around a short but demanding course.

The championships ended with the Beach Race which was definitely the highlight of the day. Steeve Fleury and Jean Luc Malfroid, both experienced racers who represented Switzerland last February at the World SUP Championships in Lima Peru, set an incredible tempo.  In the end, it was Steeve Fleury who ended up being untouchable in the 5 lap course.   Live video feeds from this race can still be seen at www.Supconnect.com or on the Supconnect YouTube channel where you can also see the race area and the beautiful scenic setting on lake Geneva with its majestic peaks.

On the women's side Samantha Schmidt won the beach race, but was beaten in the scratch ranking (open to non Swiss Citizen's) by Suzanne Lier who also won the scratch ranking in the women's long distance race.

ASSUP would like to thank all the competitors, who came from over 10 cantons to make the event such a success. Above all, ASSUP wants to give a big applause to the friendly and efficient crew from Preverenges Surf Shop who welcomed and helped the Championship Event with their efficient infrastructure.
