LONDON, England - Just yesterday Krisztina Fazekas Zur won a gold medal at the London Olympics in the Kayak Four (K4) 500m team event on behalf of Hungary. This is an incredible achievement and the paddling world extends a big congratulations to both she and her husband Rami Zur, who is also her coach. But why focus on this dynamic duo and kayaking? Because they are also an integral part of the stand up paddle community!
Krisztina and her husband Rami are stand up paddle team riders for Boardworks Surf. They did much of their training for the Olympic Games this year out of the Newport Aquatic Center in Newport Beach, California and used many of the local SUP races as part of her training for the 2012 games. Also, Krisztina developed and runs the SUP program at the Newport Aquatic Center, which attracts paddlers of all ages and skill levels.
It will be fun to watch both Krisztina and Rami explode even more onto the SUP scene as they journey home and decide where their athletic careers are headed next. What we do know is that the Olympians have indicated that they plan to attend the Battle of the Paddle at Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, CA on September 29th and 30th. Come on out to the Boardworks Surf tent, meet them personally and even pose together for picture!
