SAN DIEGO, California - The open nominations phase of the 2012 SUP Grom (Kid) of the Year Awards ended on the last day of August, but since that time the groms have gone crazy! 

This month it's the SUP Grom of the Year Final and currently the groms who are leading the charge are as follows:

1st - Dylan Frick with 1087 votes

2nd - Travis Baptiste with 777 votes

3rd - Christopher Bluthardt with 381 votes

4th - Alex Mawae with 300 votes, and

5th - Dalbert Rivera with 195 votes

A huge congratulations to all of these groms who are doing so well.  Now let's all continue to spread the word and make sure everyone in the SUP community has a chance to vote.

The final will run through September 30, 2012 and end at midnight pacific standard time. Voting started at zero for every contender, however the winner will not be exclusively determined by vote count.  The selection process is multi-faceted and will depend on the following criteria:

Selection Criteria:

1. Ambassadorship:  Conveying the cheerfulness and inclusiveness characteristic of the sport.

2. Involvement:  Attending events and gatherings, having a finger on the pulse of the sport.

3. Performance:  Showing proficiency in the sport, though top results are not a requirement.

4. Support:  Having a following and votes to show you have some support to validate your credibility.
